What is that thing?
-------------------
It all began with Denis Auroux releasing the file specifications for
Need for Speed. I don't know how he did it but he did it very well.
As track editing consists in modifying well structured data I thought
it might not be to hard do a few interesting tools to help creating
brand new tracks. I first made a few stand alone utilities, but as they
came from the same source, I decide to put them all together and make a
command line interface. So here is TEU.
As I think this program is very easy to use, there's no need to explain
every command. But feel free to e-mail me if you don't understand
something (see Contact).
File list
---------
The following files should always be distibuted together.
NFSTEU.EXE the program
TEU.BAT batch file to run the program with required parameters
NFS.BAT required to launch the game from within TEU
NFSED.BAT required to launch Tracked from within TEU
README.TXT what you're reading right now
NFSTEU.BAS the Quick Basic source code of TEU
FILE_ID.DIZ the description of the archive (usefull for BBS)
Installation
------------
1. Unzip NFSTEUxx.ZIP to any directory
2. Modify TEU.BAT: the two parameters needed are:
the drive letter for your CD-Rom
the complete path where your track file are located,
forget the backslash at the end.
ex: NFSTEU d: c:\nfs\simdata\misc
3. Modify NFS.BAT to match the location of the the NFS executable.
4. Modify NFSED.BAT to match the location of the data files (see
TrackEd's doc for more info.)
5. Put the Tracked files in the same directory as NFSTEU.
TEU to run.
xx = the drive letter for your CD-Rom ex: d:
yyyyyyyy = the complete path where your track files are located.
forget the \ at the end. ex: c:\nfs\simdata\misc
History
-------
1.1 - Added the reading of parameters to specify the drive letter of
the CD-Rom and the location of the track files that are modified.
- You can now have TEU in a separate directory.
1.0 - Everything is new, for it's the first release.
Known problems and bugs
-----------------------
- The program will stop and give an error message if you zoom too much
in the "view track" command.
Please report other weird things that would happen.
The source code
---------------
Feel free to use the source code to create your own utilities.
Just give me credits and send me your work and the source code
via e-mail, or tell me where I can find it.
If you are a C programmer and would like to port the source to that
language, I'd be glad if you sent me the new source code.
